Keys to a
Successful Offense - Anonymous
- Be
in a triple threat position when you receive the ball
everywhere on the floor. Avoid holding the ball over your head.
- Catch
and Face. Whenever you
catch the ball, wherever you are on the floor, turn to your offensive
basket.
- Use
Jump Stops! Especially when driving to the hoop.
Jump stop, be strong, and get the defense up in the air with fakes.
- Read
the defense and react accordingly. Move with a purpose.
- Know
how to read the low post defense.
- Never
pass the ball unless you have a good target to throw to. You should
see Triple Wide (Wide
eyes, Wide mouth, Wide hands i.e., the target is looking at you, calling for
the ball, and giving a target with his hands). Likewise, if you want
to receive a pass, get triple wide.
- Pass
the ball away from the defense.
- Use
good ball fakes and shot fakes.
- Make
Goldilocks passes. Not too hard, not too soft, but just
right!
- Dribble
only for 3 reasons: to improve passing angle, to drive to the hoop, to
get out of trouble. Do not just stand around dribbling -- you are too easy
to defend.
- Avoid
'dead ball' situations. Do not pick up your dribble without a target
in mind.
- See
and recognize the helpside defense.
- Be
unselfish. Work for the high percentage shot.
- Set
good stationary screens.
- Use
the screens properly. Read your defender to make the proper cut.
- Be
aware of effective reversal and skip passes.
- Make
good hard cuts to get open.
- Come
and meet the pass. Don't let anyone step in between you and the ball.
- Be
patient...there is no need to panic.
