When
players come on time to practices and games: 15 minutes early to
practice and 30 minutes early to games. "Being on time is late and
being early is on time." When players come prepared to practice and games with all the equipment, uniforms, etc. they need. When players approach me with issues, concerns, etc. When a player tries something new in a game and succeeds. When my players are best friends with each other and treat the team like a family. When they play their hardest, as if it were the last game they might ever play. Sportsmanship Coaches who coach because they love the sport and want to help kids learn. Referees who try their best to officiate without hidden agendas. People who leave the game on the court and leave what happens off the court, off the court. Players who take care of the equipment we use because it's valuable. People who read the e-mails I send out. Players who ask what they need to do for next game. Players who are honest. Communication on the court. Aggressive defense, showing a lot of effort. |
When
players come late, when they walk in from being late as if they're not
even trying to get in on time, when they fool around as soon as they get
there instead of warming up immediately. When players don't come prepared because it shows them as neglectful, uncaring, and irresponsible. When parents approach me and do the talking for their children. When a player never tries anything new because she's afraid of making mistakes. When they are not close with each other and act as if they are strangers. When they are not playing hard. Un-sportsman-like behavior. Coaches who coach only to win, to fulfill selfish needs, or only want to coach because their daughter is on the team. Referees who are clearly reffing one-sided for reasons that should not be brought to the game. People who hold a grudge after a game and dislike others because of something that happened on the court. Players who throw down the equipment or leave it behind. People who disregard the e-mails and then don't have the information they need. Players who don't ask what they need to do for next time and don't ask for their assessments because it shows they do not care and are not working on their game. Players who are dishonest. Silent games. Walking on defense, not much effort, not trying to go in for a rebound. |
