Diamond & 1 Press
[A Coach Reggie Production, 2005]

The 1, 2, & 3 are watching the ball & the players in front of them. The 4 & 5 are keeping an eye on the players in front of them while keeping an eye out for any players cutting to the frontcourt.

“Trap the girl with the ball” The 1 is the first to attack. If it’s on the right side, the 3 will help to trap. If it’s on the left side, the 4 will help to trap. The 2 remains in the center in case the ball is passed out, the 2 is ready to help. If the ball is passed across, the 2 & 4 will trap.

The Goal of the Press: To delay the other team from crossing half-court within 10 seconds. This is also where the yelling will come in handy. Remember, “ball” if she’s dribbling, and “dead” if she has stopped dribbling.
More Notes:

The 5 is ALWAYS the closest person to the basket. Pretend the frontcourt is broken up into 4 sections. If there is an opposing player behind half-court, then #5 must be in section 2. If the player is in section 2, then the #5 must be in section 3. If the player is in section 3, then #5 remains in section 3 on the side the player is in.
