Basketball Tips - #8

To effectively cross-over, you must be as close to the defender as possible; it is the only way to change direction and get past her. However, certain cross-overs, such and the in-and-out move, need specific distance so that the defender cannot steal it.

The behind the back dribble move is the only cross-over that places yourself in between the defense and the ball.

Most players have only mastered one or two moves, which they use continually throughout every game they play. Be different. Learn all the moves. Master them. Use them.

From the words of one of my player's dads: “play like it’s the last game of your life.”

FORGET about tomorrow!! Do something TODAY! Be better TODAY! Practice more TODAY!

If you EVER feel yourself getting stressed out: stop. Laugh. Remember, this is a GAME, it’s supposed to be FUN! Remember this quote from Tom Watson “If you aren't playing well, the game isn't as much fun. When that happens I tell myself just to go out and play the game as I did when I was a kid."
